What is Hypnotherapy? How does it work?
It begins with a suggestion, and ends with a life change. Hypnosis is a method to alter, amend and replace fixed ideas, beliefs, and destructive habits. It is a process whereby the client (who is in control at all times) is relaxed, allowing them to tap into their subconscious is 88% of what your mind operates, and the conscious is only 12%. The subconscious is merely a computer, storing information from as early as our childhood. It has no emotions or feelings. It operates on two movements and two movements only: Towards pleasure and away from pain: Toward reward and away from punishment. An example of this would be going on a diet. Your subconscious has a program that if you diet, you will feel deprived. And, since that is not pleasurable, it will get you to do whatever it can to stop you from dieting. Through the use of hypnosis, you convince the strongest part of your mind, the subconscious, that it is now much more pleasurable to eat healthy, and that you enjoy exercising. This is a state that you are naturally in 10 out of 90 minutes. It is that same state that you are in when you meditate, pray, watch a sunset, or complete control at all times. The subconscious mind receives and retains, neither accepting nor rejecting, all the messages we receive from our background, whether genetic, social, or religious. Plus, it retains all the conflicts (little or big) that enter our lives daily.
The hypnotic part of your session is recorded so you may take the tape home with you and reinforce the suggestions. The mind works with repetition, so you will have greater success by using the tape. In essence, hypnosis is a means of communication between the conscious and subconscious mind. Many human problems, habits, stresses, anxieties, attitudes or apparent deficiencies can be traced to interpretations by the subconscious mind which, when understood by the conscious mind, can reduce or resolve specific problems.
Your first visit is primarily to find out what you want to change and to learn about hypnosis so you are more comfortable with it, and then to make up a personalized tape for you to begin work immediately.
